Cookies and Similar Technologies — connectlettings.com, connectlisting.co.uk & the ConnectLettings apps

This policy explains how our websites use cookies and similar technologies. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy. The ConnectLettings mobile applications do not use cookies, but the same rules cover information an app stores on, or reads from, your phone — see §6.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. We keep our use of them minimal.

We also keep a record of your answer to the cookie question (accept or reject) in your browser's own storage, under cl_analytics_consent, so that we do not ask on every page. It holds only your answer and the date, is kept for 12 months, and is strictly necessary to respect your choice, so it needs no consent of its own.
Apart from the analytics cookies above, which you choose, connectlettings.com sets no cookies of its own. Signing in to your account is handled by our authentication provider (Google Firebase), which keeps your session in your browser's own storage rather than in a cookie. The cookie rules cover that kind of storage too; it is used only to keep you signed in, which is strictly necessary for a service you have asked for, so no consent is required.
3. Analytics
We use Google Analytics on our websites to understand how they are used: which pages are visited, how visitors find us, how they move around the site, what they do there (for example sending an enquiry or viewing a listing), and whether they come back.
When you first visit, we ask whether you accept analytics cookies. Accepting and rejecting are equally easy, and nothing is set before you choose.
- If you accept, Google Analytics sets the
_gacookies listed in §2 and uses them to recognise your device across visits. Its advertising features stay off: we do not allow it to use your data for advertising, personalisation or to link it to your Google account. - If you reject, or have not answered yet, Google Analytics stores no cookies and no identifiers on your device. It still receives basic information about each page request, such as your IP address, the page visited and your browser type, as described in our Privacy Policy.
Either way, it also records how quickly each page loads and responds, which says nothing about you beyond the visit itself.
Our websites are also measured by our hosting provider, Vercel, which counts the pages viewed, the referring site, the country and the type of device. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, whatever you answer. The web addresses it records have the query string removed, apart from campaign tags such as utm_source that say which advert or link brought the visitor.
We do not use advertising, retargeting, or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not build advertising profiles.
4. Third-party cookies
Apart from the analytics script described in §3, we do not embed third-party advertising or social-media trackers. Where we link to another company's service, you leave our site and that company's own cookie policy applies.
Payments are the main example: when you pay, checkout is hosted by Stripe on Stripe's own website, and Stripe sets the cookies it needs there to detect fraud and process the payment securely (for example __stripe_mid and __stripe_sid). Those cookies are set by Stripe on Stripe's domain, not by us on ours — see Stripe's cookie policy.
5. Managing cookies
You can change your answer at any time: select Cookie settings at the bottom of any page on either site. If you withdraw your consent, we stop using analytics cookies straight away and delete the _ga cookies from your browser. Your answer is stored separately on each of our two websites, so each asks you once. You can also manage, block, or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of a site working — the listing portal's admin area will not sign in without clw_session, and blocking cookies on Stripe's site may prevent checkout completing.
6. The mobile apps
The apps store the following on your device:

The apps contain no advertising identifiers and no advertising or cross-app tracking.
